RK Dharma Center of San Antonio Hosts Dr. Gene Reeves
On December 8th, Rissho Kosei Kai welcomed Dr. Gene Reeves to San Antonio for a presentation relating to The Lotus Sutra. After a brief introduction by Sal Contreras about Dr. Reeves' life and work, the talk began for our capacity crowd with standing room only.
Dr. Reeves expressed his thoughts on the beauty and relevance of the stories of the Lotus Sutra, but also that we should understand that they are composed in a fantastical format meant to stir our imaginations. Dr. Reeves offered wonderful insight into the parables of the Herbs, the Burning House and The Jewel in the Robe. With a mix of guidance, instruction, and humor, the presentation was well received by our San Antonio Sangha.
After the talk, Dr. Reeves signed books and chatted with Sangha members over coffee and desserts. Our appreciation could not be deeper for this opportunity to hear one of the foremost scholars of Buddhism, here in the heart of south Texas.
